Garden Who Dunnit

June 3, 2008

Pea comparison

Okay, so everyone’s peas except for those in the front garden bed are being eaten by some mysterious interloper. This has me sold on row covers for next year’s crop. Who dunnit? Squirrels? Birds? Bugs? Any eye witness accounts. Help us solve the mystery.

    I think it’s Carol. She just has to be a showoff! (sorry… joking….) :)

Great job! Sorry I missed the bagel breakfast this year, but ya know ..that work thang.

Maybe this year Garden Run will get first prize!

I think Ed is secretly nabbing the peas.

    Cheers,

Hi. Just passing on a note from my brother in upstate PA. He had the same problem and saw birds going crazy in his new peas and lettuce. Putting the row cover keeps them out until the peas are big enough to be on their own. I took my row cover off the one side of the front and even though it is being eaten some, it is not as tasty at this stage and they pretty much leave it alone. See you. Carol

Bummer! Jane, you found me out. I thought if I went to the garden at 5:00 AM when the birds come out to play, I could have my way with the peas to make mine tallest. A snip, snip here and there. :-) Anyway, I will try to get a new roll of row cover next year and we can all share!:-)Carol
